Interesting project, Sophia! We’ve had some success using transfer learning from models trained on more common diseases. It helps leverage larger datasets while fine-tuning for rare conditions.

As someone with a rare condition, I can’t stress enough the importance of involving patient groups in this research. They often have unique insights and can help with data collection.

Have you considered using synthetic data generation techniques? We’ve been experimenting with GANs to augment our limited rare disease datasets with promising results.
